Balancing Preaching, Worship and Fellowship

About Bethel Baptist ChurchBethel Bapist Family

In the fall of 1957, Bethel Baptist Church began holding Bible Studies led by M.O. Burman. The first services were held at Edgewood Place on February 23, 1958.

The first missionary pastor was Donald Jay. The first full-time Pastor was Harold Miller. The church began Campus Bible Fellowship under Pastor Harold Miller’s ministry.

Other pastors include Rev. Earl B. Wise, Rev. Paul Nicholas, Rev. Paul Mann, Rev. Jim Burns, Rev. Paul Cutler and current pastor Rev. Steven Hill. (Pastor Hill is our longest tenured pastor, having previously pastored in New Hartford, IA.)

We are a Bible-centered, independent Baptist Church that is affiliated with the General Association of Regular Baptist Churches and the Iowa Association of Regular Baptist Churches.

We are a very close-knit, loving assembly of believers. We are very accepting of visitors and newcomers. We take the Great Commission seriously both locally and worldwide. Our music is traditional and the preaching is expositional.

About Pastor Steve Hill

I grew up in Forest City, Iowa and was brought by a neighbor to Calvary Baptist Church for their AWANA club. Regular Sunday School attendance at the church soon followed. The neighbors would take me there and then my father would pick me up afterwards.

On a snowy December Sunday, my father was late in picking me up, so I had to sit in the morning service. It was then that I realized that I was a hell bound sinner. I trusted in the Lord Jesus as my savior while waiting in the pew that morning.

Without a godly home, I really struggled to grow spiritually. As a result, I did not live the life that I should have. It was not until my senior year of High School that I gave my life completely to the Lord and began to follow Him.

I have a BA in Biblical Studies from Faith Baptist Bible College and have been in pastoral ministry since 1978. I was ordained on November 19, 1981. I have been with Bethel Baptist Church through times of great growth as well as more difficult times.

My hobbies include traditional bow hunting, fishing, golf and motorcycling. I am involved in a motorcycle ministry called Hellfighters.

I have four adult children, one of which is in Heaven.

Cindy and I met in college. We have been married 35 years. Her interests include music, playing piano, arts and crafts.
